Allan Peterson, "Touched Often"

TOUCHED OFTEN

Touched often, skin thickens in that place,

that of the hand and the place touched,

a protection and acceptance of necessity

under the guidance of eyes and desire,

receptors and receivers in complicity.

Or intention is anticipated and accepted

in pleasure and stays pliant inviting touch,

prolonging and encouraging persistence.

Allan Peterson is the author of five books and multiple chapbooks. Fragile Acts (McSweeney's Poetry Series) was a finalist for both the 2013 National Book Critics Circle and Oregon Book Awards. All the Lavish in Common (University of Massachusetts) won the 2005 Juniper Prize.
