What is important to you?

At Valparaiso University, a focus on service is self-evident for the campus community, and in the life of Sam Maxey.

“This whole sense of giving your efforts to help those who aren’t as well-off as you is something that struck really near and dear to my heart.”

Inspired by his parents, missionaries who have spent time in Africa, and motivated by his time at Valpo, Sam is raising funds and awareness to help support women and children who have been victimized in African communities by participating in a nationwide bike tour.

At Valpo, you’ll have the opportunity to learn through service, like Sam has. Maybe you’ll want to join the Social Action Leadership Team, an active and popular student organization sponsored by the Chapel of the Resurrection, which has raised funds for service projects in Kenya and other locations around the world.

Valpo offers countless ways to serve. You can join the Engineers Without Borders chapter to work on irrigation projects in Africa, and you don’t even have to be an engineering major. Volunteer for local projects. Take a class on charitable giving — and play a part in distributing grant money to worthy charities. At Valpo, getting involved is a way of life.
