College Experience Dual Enrollment Program

The College Experience Dual Enrollment Program is an opportunity for high school sophomores through seniors to earn both high school and college credit at the same time by taking Valparaiso University courses for dual credit. Students work with their high school to determine how the coursework meets high school graduation requirements and, upon successful completion of a course, receive college credit from Valparaiso University.

Students in the Core 40 and Core 40 with Academic Honors diploma programs are eligible to take up to 8 credits per semester or summer session through Valpo. Students must apply through Valpo’s Dual Enrollment Program Application to be considered for admission to the program.

Why Dual Credit through Valpo?

This is a great way to try out college classes at a special low tuition rate to get a head start on college and see if Valpo is the place to continue your undergraduate studies beyond high school. Those who successfully complete dual enrollment coursework through Valpo will be strong candidates if they choose to apply for admission to an undergraduate bachelor’s degree program at Valparaiso University near the end of their time in high school. Please note: application to undergraduate programs for enrollment beyond high school is a separate process and dual enrollment acceptance does not constitute direct bachelor’s degree admission.

Admission Requirements

High School students who meet the following criteria are eligible for dual enrollment admission consideration:

• Have at least sophomore standing at their high school with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher
• Be making good progress to complete the CORE 40 or CORE 40 with Academic Honors diploma programs
• Be in good disciplinary standing with no major past or current infractions
• Be able to self-manage their learning including time management, good study habits, comprehending details, and organizational skills
• Be able to converse with a professor and/or advisor when course-related questions or needs arise

Courses

The live list of course options and seat availability for current and upcoming terms is available at datavu1.valpo.edu/Student/Courses. Links in those course listings provide course descriptions, prerequisite/placement information, book & materials information, etc.

Prospective high school dual enrollment students usually find 100- and 200-level courses to be the most appropriate for consideration. Dual enrollment students must meet any prerequisites and/or placement levels required for any given course in order to enroll in it.

Tuition & Fees for the 2024-25 Academic Year

Tuition and fees for dual enrollment students are set at a greatly reduced rate to allow as many students as possible to try Valpo courses as they determine their post-high school plans.

Dual Enrollment Tuition: $100 per credit
Dual Enrollment students are also responsible for paying for any books, materials, and/or course-specific fees associated with the course(s) in which they enroll

Upon course registration with the university, students will be notified via Valpo e-mail that their student account is active, through which they receive e-bills and make payments to the university

Financial Aid

Financial Aid is not available for dual enrollment high school students.

Application Process

• Complete and sign the application; Be sure to review the student & parent/guardian agreement and have a parent or guardian indicate their approval on your application.
• Have your high school send an official copy of your high school transcript to undergrad.admissions@valpo.edu.

Application Deadlines

Students are encouraged to apply early to have time to work through the enrollment steps, take advantage of best course selection, and seek books/course materials at the best prices. Applications received after the following dates may not be reviewed in time for a student to begin that term:

• Summer – April 15
• Fall – August 1
• Spring – December 15

Registration

Talk with your high school guidance counselor about courses that will work toward your high school requirements (the live course listing is at datavu1.valpo.edu/Student/Courses) so you are ready for course registration upon admission to the dual enrollment program.

For students who are admitted to Valpo’s College Experience Dual Enrollment Program, an academic advisor from the university will be in touch via the e-mail listed in your admission application within two weeks after an admission acceptance is processed. That advisor will help you register for coursework through the university and be the main point of contact, beyond the professor(s), for the duration of your dual enrollment.
