Senior Captain Justin “Jakimbo” Blanco Receives MVP Award

The Great Lakes Esports Conference gave post-season awards at playoffs this past weekend. Justin Blanco, a senior accounting major from Crown Point, Indiana, received the “mid” most valuable player award.  The award is determined by a voting committee composed of coaches and directors from the conference. 

“Mid” refers to the position Justin plays.  Similar to a quarterback in football or a point guard in basketball.  This award means he was voted the best in our conference at that specific position in the game he competes in League of Legends.

Justin who is the captain of our League of Legends team otherwise known as “Jakimbo” in-game led his team to a 7-2 record in the regular season, and a solid 5th-place finish at playoffs in Columbus, Ohio this past weekend.  

Justin is known for his leadership and communication skills in and out of the game.  Justin is a passionate and committed player who is always looking to help his team improve.  In game “Jakimbo” is known for his mechanics and play-making ability.  Jakimbo week in and week out makes game changing plays to swing the tide of the match.

Justin and the League of Legends team will shift focus to the last week of the National Esports Championship Conference regular season and look to finish their season strong this fall.
