Search Process Advocates (SPAs)

About

Search Process Advocates (formerly Diversity Advocates) serve as members of hiring search committees. Their role is to support affirmative hiring processes and practices at the University. SPAs support hiring committees for both faculty and staff positions by:

  • Helping search committee members better understand what it means to hire affirmatively
  • Uplifting all qualified candidates during the search process
  • Helping members learn how to check implicit/unconscious biases
  • Solidifying the ways in which we effectively network diverse pools of candidates

SPAs are designated by the Associate Provost for Inclusion and Retention and are required for all faculty hiring positions.
