TWO SONGS OF MORNING

 

I

The world loves us. We have to love it back
or let the first birds, then the night herons
do the chanting to change us, to make
flexed music from our anguishes.

 

II

I carry transcendences in an envelope,
my back pocket, behind my wallet,
so, I can sit on them by habit,
the multiples of grace, invisible,
and rise, always, a little lifted—
