Previous Professional Experience
During the fall of 2006, Professor Blomquist was the inaugural visiting professor and scholar at the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL) in Washington, D.C.—a think tank. During this stay he worked on projects including trade and the environment, intellectual property rights for indigenous peoples in biodiversity, and the World Bank’s developmental environmental safeguards. During the spring of 2000 Blomquist was a visiting professor and scholar at the Australian National University Law School’s Environmental Law Center in Canberra, Australia where he did research on Australian biodiversity law.
Admitted to the bars of both Indiana and New Jersey, Professor Blomquist consults with other attorneys on environmental cases and torts cases. He has extensive governmental experience including being a former elected Porter County, Indiana Councilman, a gubernatorially appointed Vice Chair of the Indiana Pollution Prevention Board, and an environmental consultant to a governor-appointed blue ribbon commission on the Indiana environment. Blomquist also served as an environmental policy coordinator to the National Advisory Policy Board of the George W. Bush for President Campaign in 2000.
Professor Blomquist has received numerous awards including the Sagamore of the Wabash (Indiana’s highest civilian honor awarded by the governor), Young Lawyer of the Year Award from the New Jersey State Bar Association, and a Regional Finalist White House Fellowships Award. He also received a law teacher of the year award from Valparaiso University School of Law. Professor Blomquist was named Swygert Research Fellow by the Valparaiso University Law School National Council. He is married to Teresa Faherty Blomquist and has two children, Drew and Courtney Blomquist.
