Carol Hamilton: “Following Yeats and Gonne”

FOLLOWING YEATS AND GONNE

Lectures and footnotes

and biographies and old news films

and letters and lives poured out

and speculated over and over,

and I, too, immersed,

not just curious, but involved,

tossed about with how life

tumbles us and how we thrash

and metronome-gone-amuck

to switch-twitch with such purpose

and passion, terror…even gratitude.

And so I wonder my way

through others’ lives, and never

truly manage to create

a neat and tidy tale to weave

through my own terribly

gyring-about and wondrous days.

Carol Hamilton has recent and upcoming publications in numerous journals, including Louisiana Literature, Hawaii Pacific Review, Southwest American Literature, Birmingham Literary Journal, San Pedro River Review, Adirondack Review, Commonweal, and others.
