Sirko Makerspace

Welcome to the Sirko Makerspace, where makers, artists, designers, and entrepreneurs can create just about anything you can imagine. Cut, engrave, and score more than 300 types of materials on our Cricut Maker 3 or Glowforge Pro Laser Printer. Iron on your own custom designs with the Cricut Easy Press 2. Try your hand at 3D design with our Matter and Form 3D scanner and two-color Flashforge Pro 3D printer. The opportunities are endless, so let’s get to work!

The Sirko Makerspace is accessible to any current Valparaiso University students and faculty. All students and faculty must go through training before being given access to the makerspace. Once you have been trained, you will have access to all of the amazing equipment in the makerspace, no lab fees required. Just make sure you reserve equipment prior to use and bring your own materials.

Still feeling unsure? There will always be a monitor in the makerspace during open hours for you to consult with or feel free to email prior to your visit with any questions you may have. When arriving at the Sirko Makerspace, the monitor will allow you in and make sure you have reserved the equipment you wish to use. Reservations are on a first-come, first-serve basis, but we ask that you please respect the limited time that the makerspace is open and allow other people the opportunity to sign up by limiting your reservation time to 2 hours per day. Schedule your training or reserve equipment below.

Please read the FAQs below to answer any questions you may have. If you have any further questions or would prefer to schedule an appointment to learn more about the makerspace, please email us at

Your safety is of the utmost importance to us. To ensure we are offering a safe environment in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we ask that all students wear a face covering and adhere to social distance guidelines (6 ft).

Q: Can I reserve equipment if I am not a CVA or Theater major or minor?
A: Yes! The Sirko Makerspace is now open to all students, faculty, and staff. Come make stuff with us and see how you can use the space for your next project.

Q: Can I ask the makerspace monitor how to use the equipment?

A: Yes! If you are unfamiliar with the operation of equipment, it is encouraged to consult the student aide or faculty assigned to monitor the makerspace at the time of your reservation.

Q: What happens if the equipment I checked out ends up broken, lost, or stolen?
A: You will be held accountable for any lost, stolen, and/or broken equipment. You will be notified of the fee associated with the lost or damaged equipment.

Q: Do I need to supply my own materials?
A: Yes! You are reserving only time with the equipment. Any materials you want to use, you must provide yourself. Please consult during your training what materials are allowed to use for each machine prior to purchasing materials.

Q: Can I reserve more than one piece of equipment at a time?
A: Unfortunately, no. Due to the limited amount of equipment, students are only allowed to check out one at a time. We also ask that you please respect the limited time that the makerspace is open and allow other people the opportunity to sign up by limiting your reservation time to 2 hours per day
