Sirko Makerspace

Welcome to the Sirko Makerspace, where makers, artists, designers, and entrepreneurs can create just about anything you can imagine. Cut, engrave, and score more than 300 types of materials on our Cricut Maker 3 or Glowforge Pro Laser Printer. Iron on your own custom designs with the Cricut Easy Press 2 or Mug Press. Try your hand at 3D design with our Matter and Form 3D scanner and Dremel 3D printer. The opportunities are endless, so let’s get to work!

The Sirko Makerspace is accessible to any current Valparaiso University students and faculty—no lab fees or reservations required, just come in during our open hours so that one of our staff can help you. You can also purchase supplies directly through the makerspace, although supplies are limited, so make sure to consult with us before you come in. If we don’t have the supplies you are looking for, you can bring in your own.

Still feeling unsure? There will always be a staff member in the makerspace during open hours for you to consult with or feel free to email prior to your visit with any questions you may have. When arriving at the Sirko Makerspace, staff will allow you in and make sure you are properly trained in the equipment you wish to use. Machine use is on a first-come, first-serve basis, and we ask that you please respect a 2 hours per day limit on machines when someone is waiting to use it.

Please read the FAQs below to answer any questions you may have. If you have any further questions or would prefer to schedule an appointment to learn more about the makerspace, please email us at

Q: Who can use the Sirko Makerspace?

A: The Sirko Makerspace is open to all students, faculty, and staff.

Q: What materials do I need for my project and where do I get them?

A: Every project is unique and not all materials are compatible with our machines. It is highly encouraged that you email about your project before purchasing materials, so we can help guide you in the right direction. Once you have consulted with us, you can decide to purchase materials yourself, or we have a ton of materials you can purchase directly from the Makerspace.
