Federal Grants
Pell grants are offered to students whose FAFSA results show significant financial need. Award amounts can change yearly. These grants are generally available only to undergraduate students. Pell Grants may be available to students for up to the equivalent of 12 semesters. For information on Pell grant amounts visit Studentaid.gov.
Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants are offered to students whose FAFSA results show exceptional financial need. Award amounts range from $100 to $4,000 per year. These grants are offered to Pell Grant-eligible students with the highest financial need based on availability of funds, and at the discretion of Valparaiso University’s Financial Aid Office.
A TEACH Grant (Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant) is a federal grant that provides funding to students who agree to teach in a high-need field for four years at an elementary school, secondary school, or educational service agency that serves low-income families. If this service requirement is not met, the grant is converted into a Direct Unsubsidized Loan. Students must file the FAFSA, complete the federal Agreement to Serve and counseling, and enroll in a TEACH Grant eligible program.

FAFSA: Your Key to Funding College
Each fall, the FAFSA becomes available on October 1, allowing undergraduate and graduate students to begin planning their financial aid for the next academic year. At Valpo, financial aid awards are reviewed and processed on a rolling basis once your admission application and FAFSA are received, giving you earlier insight into your college costs. Indiana-based undergraduates who wish to be considered for state grant funding must complete the FAFSA no later than April 15.
