Grounded in Faith | Cam Haggett ’28

People sit in a modern church, grounded in faith, with tall, colorful stained glass windows behind the altar.

Cam Haggett’s ’28 (they/them) faith is an important part of their life. Cam even hopes to go into ministry after graduation. Cam says, “My faith has shaped every aspect of who I am, from my relationships to my interests to my future career path. Without my faith, I would be a completely different person.” Cam continues, “My faith provides me with a framework through which I can view myself, my work, and my actions. It helps me make decisions and interpret the world around me.”

Cam says it was important to choose a faith-based university because of the community that comes with faith activities. Cam says, “I’ve always prioritized finding and involving myself with faith-based communities. Having a community of people of faith gives me a space to share my beliefs and analyze them more complexly.” Further, “While not every individual on campus is involved with the faith-based activities at Valpo, those activities are deeply meaningful for those who participate. Moreover, those who attend often take on crucial roles, which allows them to grow as leaders and individuals.”

Speaking of taking on crucial roles, Cam has begun serving in the Chapel regularly and says, “Serving in the Chapel matters to me in many ways. It gives me a community, grows my relationship with God, and helps me feel a sense of purpose and calling.”

Cam has big aspirations for life after Valpo, “Since I want to go into ministry, my faith heavily influences my goals and aspirations. I aim to graduate from Valpo with a double major in theology and Spanish, with a minor in communications. I intend to pair these fields to spread the Word to a wider range of people.”
