Dr. Angela Vidal-Rodriguez is the Assistant Vice-President for Diversity Equity and Inclusion at Valparaiso University. She works under the Office of the President and oversees the Office of Multicultural Programs. Her office supports university projects that affect underrepresented students in campus, and oversees the implementation of the Action Agenda for Racial Equity and Inclusion. Previous to this position, Dr. Vidal-Rodriguez was the Director of the McNair Scholars Program at Northeastern Illinois University. For 17 years, she has served in several programs dedicated to advancing the educational opportunities of underrepresented and nontraditional students in higher education. She attained her doctoral degree in higher education from the Center for the Study of Higher and Post-secondary Education of the University of Michigan. She received her M.B.A from Northeastern Illinois University and her B.A. in economics from Anahuac University, Mexico. Her research interests are in organizational behavior issues and policies that affect the access and success of underrepresented students in colleges and universities. Her most recent work investigates the effect of state policy on student outcomes. She is also interested in the way higher education institutions navigate external and internal stakeholder’s pressures when advancing diverse students’ interests in higher education. She likes to teach and mentor young scholars, faculty and staff. Currently, Angela teaches research methods and student development classes.
