It took an incredible second half by 5th year senior guard Brandon McPherson who scored 19 of his game-high 25 points in the second half  to catapult the Crusaders to a 78-56 victory over the IU-South Bend Titans. Also having a great night was the junior transfer Cory Johnson who had a double-double recording 16 points and 12 rebounds. The Crusaders outscored the Titans 48-23 in the second half to overcome their 3 point half time deficit.

Crusaders Hold Off Late Cougar Surge

Wednesday, 18 November 2009

The Valparaiso women’s basketball team improved to 2-0 on the young season after beating SIU Edwardsville 64-55 at the ARC Wednesday night. Senior Lauren Kenney posted her first double-double of the season with 21 points and 16 rebounds. After posting a career 20 points last time out against Indiana Tech, Betsy Adams one upped herself with a 21 point career-high performance. The Crusaders surrendered 24 turnovers, which is something they will need to work on before they welcome in a very good Colorado State team on Sunday to the Athletics Recreation Center at 1:35pm.

Valpo Holds Their Own Against National Champions
Written by Keaton Gillogly
Sunday, 15 November 2009

The Valparaiso Crusader men’s basketball team was at Chapel Hill taking on the North Carolina Tar Heels Sunday evening for the third time in three years. VU hung tough with the defending national champions but fell 88-77. Valparaiso clawed their way back to 31-28 with 2:16 to go in the first half thanks to Brandon Wood who had 10 points in the first 20 minutes.  The Tar Heels went on a 9-0 run to open the second half to take a 46-31 lead. Carolina extended their lead out to 23 points eight minutes into the second half. However, Brandon McPherson and Brandon Wood helped cut that lead to nine with under two minutes to go, but could get no closer in the 11 point loss. The Brandons combined for 50 points going 10-16 from behind the ARC.
