For Jackson Price ’27, every aspect of his life has been shaped by his faith. He says, “My faith has shaped every part of my life, from how I think to who I’m friends with. Just about every aspect of my life and my time here at Valpo is in some way connected to my faith. From studying theology to my spare time spent praying, my faith has been taken into every aspect of my life. It has also shaped how I interact with others. Before I came to faith, I was timid and shy, but now I have the courage to welcome people with a big smile and an even bigger wave. I also find joy in serving others in many ways around campus, but it usually involves food.”
The opportunities that Valpo offered Jackson to express his faith are what drew him to the University. He says, “It was important for me to attend a faith-based university not only because of my vocation but also because of the importance of faith at this institution. There are many opportunities to express my faith on campus, whether through worship or service.” He continues, “Even though I’m not a Lutheran, as a fellow Christian, I still find faith activities on campus to enliven my faith. And studying faith from a similar but different tradition helps me understand my faith tradition better.”
Jackson’s time serving at the Chapel enables him to enjoy his faith and see others enjoy theirs. He explains, “Serving at the Chapel is important for me because I get to play a role in not only my faith but also the faith of others. By making the Chapel a welcoming space for everyone, I make room for the Lord to work in and through the services.” He adds, “I think it is important to keep faith-based activities at Valpo not only because of the strong Lutheran heritage that this institution has but also because faith is the most important thing, period.”
In the future, Jackson hopes to continue to serve, saying, “I want to be a pastor, but beyond that, I want to be a servant of God.”
