Peer Tutoring Program

Learn About Peer Tutoring

Explore how Peer Tutoring works, who is eligible, and how to request a peer tutor.

The Peer Tutoring Program provides free, course-specific support for students in many undergraduate courses. Students are matched with a trained peer tutor who has successfully completed the course with a grade of B or higher. The student and tutor meet weekly for one-on-one or small-group tutoring sessions focused on course content, study strategies, and building skills students can use independently when studying on their own. Tutoring takes place in the Academic Success Center or Christopher Center Library.

Tutoring options may vary depending on tutor availability and whether Drop-In Study Sessions are offered. When Drop-In Study Sessions are available, students are expected to attend a session before being matched with a peer tutor. Students are also expected to attend class regularly, meet with their course professor, and demonstrate a need for individualized support.

Peer Tutoring is available to students who are currently enrolled in the course for which they are requesting tutoring. When Drop-In Study Sessions are available for the course, students requesting an ongoing peer tutor are also expected to:

  • Attend class regularly
  • Attend at least one Drop-In Study Session each week
  • Meet with their course instructor to discuss concerns about available resources
  • Demonstrate a need for additional support beyond available course resources and Drop-In Study Sessions

Before a tutoring match is made, the Academic Success Center will confirm class attendance and that the student has met with their course instructor. Tutor availability is limited, and meeting these criteria does not guarantee a match. Depending on student demand and tutor availability, students may be matched one-on-one or in a small group of 2-3 students.

Students who meet the eligibility criteria may submit a Peer Tutor Request Form. If a tutor is available and a match is made, students will be contacted with information about their tutor. The tutor will then follow up within 24-48 hours to share next steps and schedule a meeting. If a match cannot be made, the student will also be informed. Tutoring may be one-on-one or in a small group, depending on student demand and tutor availability.
