Social Action Leadership Team (SALT)

The Social Action Leadership Team (SALT) is the Spirit-led social justice ministry of the Chapel of the Resurrection at Valparaiso University in which students from all walks of life come together in community to embody the Christian call to be the “salt of the earth” (Matt. 5:13).

Every year, the Social Action Leadership Team (SALT) of the Chapel of the Resurrection at Valparaiso University selects one project for which to raise money, the World Relief Campaign. This is in addition to numerous activities done locally which generate hundreds of volunteer hours by students and benefit the Valparaiso area. SALT is involved in local volunteering, spring break service trips, and church-based community organizing.

How to Become an Immigration Social Worker – Social work in the United States began in the nineteenth century working with immigrants and others living in poverty in settlement halls, according to the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). These homes served as not only residences, but provided a place for the residents to find employment, medical care, education, and other services they needed to begin a transition to living successful lives in the United States. Then as now, many immigrants found themselves facing poverty upon arrival in this country. These social work pioneers, and those who followed, believed that addressing all of the root causes of poverty would help their clients build success moving forward. The social work profession grew out of this framework. In a very real sense all social work is an outgrowth of immigration social work. The Guide can be found here – https://mastersinsocialworkonline.org/careers/immigration-social-worker/

How to Become an International Social Worker – International social workers are concerned with addressing inequalities of disadvantaged individuals and communities around the world. The field works to ensure the basic needs of each individual are met, communities are equipped to be sustainable and provide services equitably, and that systems of oppression are dismantled. The Guide can be found here – https://mastersinsocialworkonline.org/careers/international-social-worker/
