Employee of the Month

The Staff Council would like to recognize the outstanding contributions made by our staff members each day. It is our goal to choose one full- or part-time employee each month to celebrate as someone who is positively impacting our campus community. This person should be someone who works hard to support the University, someone who has added to the campus community in some way, and someone with whom others enjoy working.

Employee of the Month

Robert Bird, General Technician III, was selected as the May 2024 SEAC Employee of the Month.

Nominators spoke about Robert’s dedication to teamwork, service to others, and commitment to Valparaiso University:

Robert (Bob) Bird has been in our department for over 25 years and is respected for his carpentry and locksmith skills. Once a project is started, Bob makes sure it is done correctly, cost efficiently, and in a timely manner.

As mentors of Bob, he listens to new ideas and is not set in his ways of doing projects. He plans ahead, and is prepared to begin transforming the ARC several weeks prior to commencement each year. His sense of humor and smile keep everyone upbeat, even on a bad day.

Bob does not let anyone struggle, and he will help a co-worker learn a trade so they can perform their best. Teaching the correct way to use tools and getting the job done is the end-goal to make the FM department function better each day.

When he isn’t camping with his family, or at band practice, Bob makes the campus comfortable and safe for the students. From rescreening windows, fixing drawers and closets, and keeping our doors/locks functioning, we can rest easy that we are secure in our buildings.
