The health of students, faculty, and staff at Valparaiso University is central to the longevity of our participation in and enjoyment of music. Musicians have some specialized concerns, especially in the areas of hearing health, musculoskeletal health, vocal health, and psychological health. Students are asked to refer to the Department of Music statement of Health and Safety for Musicians for more information. The statement may be found online at valpo.edu/college-of-arts-and-sciences/music/health/, or a copy may be obtained in the Music Office. Anytime that you have specific health concerns, consult with a certified or licensed medical or healthcare professional.
Additional information about hearing health provided by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) and the Performing Arts Medicine Association (PAMA) may be found on the NASM website.
We recommend registering for your first-choice ensemble at FOCUS, prior to the August audition, to make sure the time and credit are reserved in your schedule.
To request an audition time, fill out the Audition Request Form.
Ensemble auditions will be held during Welcome Week. If you complete the audition request form, you will be given an audition time and information will be sent to your Valpo email address closer to Welcome Week.
Lockers can be checked out from the VUCA main office between 9am-5pm Monday-Friday.
