Green Your Office
The Green your office program is beneficial in conservation efforts, creating a healthy and greener campus, and reducing costs. Green your office members will be recognized on campus and will receive a Green Your Office sticker for their office.
Certification Process
- Contact Office of Sustainability via Julie.Whitaker@valpo.edu
- Meet with a Sustainability Coordinator – this is to go over the program as well as suggesting your own ideas for your building/office
- Present the green your office program to staff
- Complete the required Green Your Office Checklist
- Start to receive points for the 1, 2, and 3 point tasks
- Work with others offices to complete the required steps
- Check back in with Valpo Sustainability to certify your Green Office
- Send Valpo office of sustainability your scorecard
Requirements
- Discuss Green Program with office manager and have support
- Ensure a recycle bin is placed by every trash bin in all common areas
- Check recycle and trash bin labels annually to ensure labeling is correct and up to date
- Recycle electronic waste including computers, laptops, printers, CFLs, batteries, phones, and ink cartridges.
- Office manager sends an email to inform office workers about sustainable practices, and get participation to at least 50%
- Share this information with new employees. Show them the checklist, establish printer etiquette, show them where all recycle bins/stations are in the office. This checklist can be found on the website for the Office of Sustainability.
- Purchase 100% recycled copy paper
- Review and understand Valpo’s Energy Policy
- Enable sleep mode on all network copiers/printers automatically after 5 minutes
- Complete tasks up to at least Bronze certification
- Bronze: Achieved at 40% rating (Along with all required)
- Silver: Achieved at 60% rating (Along with all required)
- Gold: Achieved at 80% rating (Along with all required)
- Green: Achieved at 90% rating (Along with all required)

- Create new sustainability tasks and communicate them to the Office of Sustainability
