Biography

Jordy Blitz Novak, MM, MT-BC has been a practicing music therapist since 2012 and has worked with a variety of client populations.  Jordy founded her private practice, The Great Lakes Music Company, LLC in 2016 and is one of the most popular music therapy providers in the region serving over 175 clients weekly.  Jordy specializes in music therapy for individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, and end-of-life care.  She has also served local schools and detained youth at the Lake County Juvenile Detention Center.  The Great Lakes Music Company is a community centered practice that prioritizes community engagement through music.  Jordy has led community drum and ukulele circles, and organized community performances for all abilities.   

Jordy earned her master’s degree in music therapy from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo and completed her thesis research on the topic of music therapy professional competencies.  She went on to publish her thesis research in November 2021 in the peer reviewed journal, Voices.  Jordy has an extensive performance background on violin, guitar, and bass guitar.  Jordy has performed as a section violinist with the Eastern Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Illinois State University Symphony Orchestra, and the Danville Symphony Orchestra.  She also enjoys performing on guitar and bass with local bands and has performed with an all-female rock band at the House of Blues Chicago. 

Jordy is the musical director at Temple Israel in Gary and coordinates sacred music for holidays and special events.  She lives with her husband and son in Crown Point, Indiana and has lived in Northwest Indiana since 2014.
