Biography

Stephanie Harris, MA, MT-BC is a Board Certified-Music Therapist serving the Northwest Indiana community for almost 20 years.  An Ohio native, she received her Bachelor of Music degree in Music Therapy from Ohio University and completed her internship at New Avenues to Independence in Cleveland. Stephanie completed her Master of Arts degree in Music Therapy from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC).  As Director of Clinical Services at Behavior Specialists of Indiana, she continues regular clinical work as a music therapist with children and adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities and autism and oversees the Medicaid Waiver and Behavioral Health services. Stephanie completed further music therapy training in Neurologic Music Therapy, Sprouting Melodies (early childhood), Guided Imagery in Music, and has also worked with geriatric populations with a focus on individuals with dementia.  These varied backgrounds of training allow Stephanie to approach clinical work in a way where each individual can benefit from a variety of techniques that best fit their needs. She has mentored and trained many students through observations, practicums, and internships throughout her career.

Stephanie has served in many leadership roles with the Association for Indiana Music Therapy and the Great Lakes Region of the American Music Therapy Association.  She is also an adjunct instructor at SMWC in their Music Therapy Equivalency Distance program. 

As a musician, Stephanie is a trumpeter and mezzo-soprano. She continued her vocal education as a vocal principal under Patricia Pease and Dr. Peter Jarjisian at Ohio University. Through her study and practice of music therapy, she has become proficient in keyboard, guitar, percussion, and a variety of other recreational instruments.
