Allied Health Program Plans

The Allied Health program at Valparaiso University is designed to prepare students for admission into professional programs. These programs include those for physician assistant, physical therapy, optometry or occupational therapy and other health-related programs. The following information is a guide to students planning to pursue a specific area within the medical field.

The American Art Therapy Association (AATA) provides a wealth of information to those interested in learning more about a profession in art therapy.

The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) provides a wealth of information to those interested in learning more about a profession in occupational therapy.

The Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO) provides a wealth of information to those interested in learning more about optometry.

The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) provides a wealth of information to those interested in learning more about a profession in physical therapy.

The American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) provides a wealth of information to those interested in learning more about the physician assistant profession.

Students in these programs must have their schedules approved each semester by their pre-allied health academic advisor. Advising in pre-allied health is handled by faculty mentors in collaboration with a pre-medical advisor, all of whom are members of the Committee on the Pre-Medical Arts. All recommendations to the professional schools are sent out by this committee.
