Don’t Cancel That Class Workshops
The WHAT: An initiative to get skill-building or other educational workshops to students through utilization of already scheduled course time. This program encourages faculty who may have a class or two they planned to cancel due to professional development or other needs to instead use that class time to request that The Wellness Office or other Departments provide a structured program.
The WHY: This initiative helps provide students with access to wellness resources or additional skills training without requiring them to take more time out of their day and allows professors to save class cancellations for emergencies such as illness. This can expand the type of students who are able to access these programs while also encouraging faculty to think of their classroom as a central role in educating and supporting our students in ways that increase resilience, retention, and satisfaction.
The HOW: Faculty can utilize the form below to request a workshop from our selection. They will be able to request multiple programs and indicate ranked preference as well as time and date of the class period that they would like covered. The Wellness Office would monitor the form and reach out to departments whose program has been requested to assess for availability and confirmation if this coverage is possible. Faculty are encouraged to submit one form for each course section to help with organization.
The WHO: The Wellness Office and other areas of campus who provide educational and skills based programs or resources to students to help them succeed. These can be programs already provided in other areas or programs specifically designed for this program. They can be hosted by Staff or trained Student Staff of that department. Programs are generally structured to fit a 50 minute class period unless stated otherwise but can be stretched to fill a longer class period or be stacked with other workshops.
