Blackboard Learn gives faculty the opportunity to make learning materials available to students 24-hours a day. After class is finished meeting, students can participate in discussion boards, take online quizzes and tests or turn in assignments electronically through Blackboard Learn. Some courses at Valparaiso University are hosted entirely online through Blackboard Learn whereas other face-to-face courses use Blackboard Learn to supplement the in-class instruction.


Eesysoft Pilot in Blackboard

VITAL is piloting a new product within the Blackboard environment.  This new software is now live.  As a result, there is a new support button that appears and messaging.


You will see messages pop up from time to time in Blackboard. These will be used to communicate urgent or important messages. Messaging will be carefully and thoughtfully chosen to communicate timely information and be as least intrusive as possible.  The messaging is directed to users with certain roles or, targeted to improve usage.  Messages may not be the same for all users. Messaging may be related to the following:

  • Announcing new features, or updates to Blackboard
  • Addressing frequent questions received by VITAL
  • Promoting features which are underutilized

You can also give a “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” feedback. After reading a message, you can choose to click the “X” to close the message or “Don’t show this again” to disable that particular message.

Support Center Tab

The Support Center is an on-demand resource available 24/7 where you can get help, find answers to questions, and learn more about how to use Blackboard. Click on the Support tab , in any Learn course to open the Support Center. Once opened, you can click on the different categories or type in the search bar to find the help you need.  At the bottom of the Support Center you also can contact VITAL by using the Email button at the bottom of the help article.

The support button cannot be disabled.  However, it may be moved to a preferred location along the right side of the page.  To move the support button, please follow the steps below:

  1. Hover over the button.
  2. Two arrows will appear at the right of the button.  
  3. Click and hold the arrows while dragging it to your desired location.

The bottom right corner of the screen may be the ideal placement.  The button will remain where you placed it in subsequent Blackboard sessions.

Eesysoft, the provider of this platform enhancement, works to improve VITAL’s efficiency, streamline messaging, and enhance teaching through Blackboard. This is a pilot of the software.  You are encouraged to utilize the voting options on articles and messaging.  Doing so will help direct VITAL in providing timely and more robust assistance.
