The Institute for Leadership and Service supports Valparaiso University in preparing students for lives of leadership and service. Through its speaker series, summer fellowship program, related coursework, and reflection opportunities, the Institute helps students connect their academic study, their service, and their plans for future success around a deeper sense of purpose and calling in church and society.

Mark your calendars! Click here to download the Spring 2017 Pathways to Purpose Speaker Series Calendar.

Pathways to Purpose, the Institute’s speaker series, brings dynamic alumni and other exemplary practitioners of leadership and service to campus to help expand student imagination about purposeful work and a meaningful life after college.

The CAPS Fellows Program helps students develop their sense of calling and purpose in society by reimagining the traditional internship as a communal and reflective experience, deepening its impact on discernment. Fellows complete intensive summer internships that offer relevant real-world experience, accompanied by significant reflection in community with other Fellows. Fellows also participate in reflective discussions and connect with alumni mentors to talk about questions of calling and purpose, life after Valpo, and what it means to lead and serve. Learn more about the fellowship here and read stories from the 2016 Fellows at the CAPS Fellows Blog.

Join the conversation with the Civic Reflection Initiative!

Civic reflection discussions use readings, images, and videos to engage students in deep, productive conversation about issues that impact their communities and work in the world. The Civic Reflection Initiative is a student-led network of facilitators trained to lead these conversations on campus and in the wider community. Follow our Facebook page to join the conversation at the next CRI event!

The Center for Civic Reflection, a special program of the Institute, is a national resource center supporting significant reflection on leadership and service through training, publications, discussions, and more.
