Description
The Brauer Musuem of Art is home to a nationally recognized collection of 19th and 20th century American art and includes works by Frederic Edwin Church, Asher B. Durand, Child Hassam, Georgia O'Keefe, and Ed Paschke. It also houses the largest known collection of works by Junius R. Sloan, a Hudson River School painter who lived and worked in the Midwest. Other focus areas within the collection include world religious art and Midwestern regional art. As well as displaying selections from its permanent collection, the Brauer Museum hosts a full schedule of special exhibitions and events
The VUCA theatre is home to a multitude of student and professional performances throughout the year. It seats 290, has a computer based lighting system, an audio control booth, a trap door system on stage, and an orchestra pit that has been used in productions such as "The Triumph of Love" and "The Ballad of Baby Doe." The theatre department is also outfitted with a costume shop, both men's and women's dressing rooms, and a green room
Description
In addition to the main theatre there is a studio theatre in which student-directed productions are performed, including an annual series of "1-2-3-4-5" performances, sponsored by the TTVA Department and directed and performed by TTVA students.
The facility comes complete with a built-in curtain system, blue screen, computer based lighting system, and S-VHS post production editing equipment including a special effects board
The music classrooms are geared toward classes such as theory, musicianship, and music history. Each room has a piano, a sound system for demonstrating musical examples via CD or cassette, and chalkboards with permanent music staves
This classroom is equipped with a sprung floor, mirrored walls (three of the four walls), and windows to the campus. It is primarily utilized for acting classes and rehearsals because of its large and informal space
The tiered classroom is the VUCA's largest classroom. It seats 90 people, has a video projection unit, dual rear-projected slide machines, surround-sound capabilities, and access to both the campus intranet and the world-wide-web
The seminar rooms are primarily used for non-arts related classes such as Freshman CORE, theology, or history. Each seminar room is equipped with TV and VCR and each has a beautiful view of the campus. The seminar rooms have large tables and comfortable chairs to facilitate easy discussion and group work
The VUCA has an instrumental rehearsal room for orchestras and the university bands. It has been fine tuned for its acoustical purpose
The university's many choirs practice in Bauer Hall which is equipped with a large organ and grand piano. It has been fine tuned acoustically
For those interested in organ, the VUCA holds two organ practice rooms, each complete with four tracker organs for student practice
The chamber music rehearsal room is for student ensemble rehearsals, serves as a digital recording studio with adjacent control booth, has a 9-foot Steinway Concert Grand which was newly rebuilt, and a Double-Manual harpsichord
Audiences are continually impressed by the VUCA's Duesenberg Recital hall. With a seating capacity of 240 (including balcony seating), the hall was designed specifically with chamber music in mind. The hall has been fine tuned for voice and piano recitals, string quartets, brass quintets, chamber orchestras, and has capabilities for recording concerts digitally
