General Counsel Overview

Vice President and General Counsel Darron C. Farha works closely with the president, Board of Directors, and University administrators on law-related and policymaking issues affecting the institution. In addition to providing legal advice and representation to the University through its board members and administrators, Farha has supervisory responsibilities over compliance, risk management, and the University Police Department.

  • Investigate and aid in the resolution of grievances and complaints.
  • Manage and assist with litigation brought against the University.
  • Represent the University in administrative matters filed with regulatory agencies.
  • Draft, edit, and negotiate contracts on behalf of the University.

Our office gives legal advice to the University by and through its administration. The relevant vice president, dean, director, or any superiors should be made aware of any issue before it is brought directly to our office and our office may disclose any issues or communications with a University employee to the relevant administrator or administrators.

In order to ensure compliance with federal law, Valparaiso University has established two policies related to nondiscrimination. The Nondiscrimination Policy as to Students reflects the University’s obligations to the U.S. Department of Education. The Equal Employment Opportunity Policy reflects the University’s obligations to the U.S. Department of Labor.

Valparaiso University is an institution committed to its Lutheran traditions. The University reserves the right to promote the teachings of the church and to exercise preferences in admission in favor of Lutherans.
