Undergraduate Writing Consultants

You can make an appointment with undergraduate consultants here at the Writing Center. We are a diverse group of students and professors from a variety of academic backgrounds and majors, who have a strong desire to help you succeed in your writing endeavors. Just select the tab to the left, according to whether you are a graduate or undergraduate student, to see the consultants available to make an appointment!

Kailyn is a sophomore health science major on the PA track from Sussex, WI. She is on the swim team, as well as a member of Pi Beta Phi and the Student Athlete Advisory Committe. This is her first year working in the writing center. She enjoys reading historical fiction and writing rhetorical analysis and argumentative essays.

Martha is a sophomore English and Spanish double major from Portage, IN. This is her first year working at the Writing Center, and she’s so excited to work with everyone! Martha is involved in a lot on campus—she’s in Soul of Sol, Hooked On Tonics, Dance Ensemble, Kantorei, and Pre-Law Society! She also enjoys hanging out with her friends and practicing with her dance crew. Martha’s favorite type of writing is creative writing and rhetorical analysis, and her favorite genre is fantasy (though when she’s not doing readings for class she’ll usually indulge in fanfiction).

Duaa is a junior nursing major from Saudi Arabia. She has been working at The Writing Center for one year. Duaa speaks two languages, Arabic and English. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with her friends as that is her favorite way to destress. Duaa’s favorite genre in books is thriller and her favorite type of writing is creative writing.

Jasmine Collins is a Senior Music and English Double major with a minor in Humanities through Christ College and she is from Pottstown, Pennsylvania. This is her second academic year as a Writing Center consultant and the genres that she enjoys reading and working with the most are creative writing assignments and research papers. Outside of the Writing Center, Jasmine is the President for Sigma Alpha Iota (a women’s music fraternity), a Tutorial Assistant Christ College’s First-Year Program, and the Music Librarian of Kantorei (Valparaiso University’s chapel choir). She cannot wait to help you achieve your writing goals this semester!

Harley is double majoring in Computer Science and Digital Media, and this is their first semester at the Writing Center! When not cranking out homework, they enjoy playing video games, drawing, watching video essays, and collecting fossils and other weird trinkets! Harley is also a member of Haunt here at Valpo. Their favorite writing genres are fiction (preferably spooky), scientific works, and critical analysis essays.

Chance is a sophomore business management major from Lockport, Illinois. Outside of the Writing Center, he is involved in Hooked on Tonics, WVUR, Haunt, and the League of Legends Esports team here on campus. This is Chance’s first year working at the writing center, and his favorite writing style is creative writing.

Ben is a senior English major from Westville Indiana. Ben works as a writing consultant at the Writing Center and is the editor in chief of the Lodestar (English Department Newsletter). He has a passion for writing and enjoys reading American and British literature.

Elinor is a political science and history major from Hebron, Indiana. They are the treasurer of the Pre-Law society and enjoy writing poetry and short essays in their free time.

Morgan is a senior Accounting major with a minor in Communication from Crown Point, Indiana! This is her third year as a consultant and when she’s not in the Writing Center or in class, she serves as the Lead Resident Assistant for Beacon Hall and the Promenade Apartments. Her favorite genre to read is fantasy or historical fiction and her favorite genre to write is research. Whether you need help with brainstorming or making an outline, crafting a thesis, or anything and everything in between, Morgan is more than happy to help you!

Emily is a senior physics major from Chicago with a passion for writing and editing. This is their third year working in the Writing Center, and most of their time outside of class is occupied with homework, reading, and writing. Fiction and creative works are Emily’s favorite to read and write, but anything you bring in will be welcome!

Harley is a Junior Creative Writing Major with a passion for English. This is her second year working in the writing center and she seeks to help students grow as writers while improving her own editorial skills. She’s currently the President of the Rollin’ with RPGs club on campus as well as a member of Alliance. In her free time, you can catch her reading, writing, watching anime, gaming, or planning out the adventure for her next campaign! Harley is also the proud parent of two dogs: a chihuahua named Ambrosius and a miniature dachshund named Akasha.

Damon Virgo is your friendly neighborhood junior Chemistry major from Valparaiso, Indiana, here to bring the explosive excitement of acids, bases, and reaction mechanisms to the wonderful world of writing. Need help balancing your thesis like a chemical equation? Or maybe you’re just trying to titrate your way through an essay? No worries—Damon’s got you covered! When he’s not mixing chemicals in the lab, you’ll find him mixing metaphors and dashing through dangling participles at the Writing Center.
