Spanish Honors 2020

Every spring, during the last week of class, the Department of World Languages and Cultures honors its graduating Spanish seniors at our awards ceremony.  This spring, we are sadly unable to gather in person, but we still wish to recognize our seniors and all of their accomplishments of these past four years. Congratulations to our graduating seniors!

Melissa Ávila
Melissa is expecting news from Law Schools she has applied to, at the same time that she looks for internships to gain professional experience.

Jessica Aguayo-Huizar
Jessica will continue to be a student at Valparaiso University, as she will be earning a Master’s Degree in Business Administration while also studying to take the LSAT (Law School Admission Test) this coming September.

Raenah Baile
Raenah is going to start a four-year Ph.D. program of Environment and Earth Sciences and Sciences at the Indiana University-Purdue-University of Indiana. Here she will focus on chemical and geological processes that affect the cycle of nutrients in the oceans and the earth, and how this is related to climate change.

Lucas Delahunty
Lucas will start a Master’s degree in Latin American literature at the University of New Mexico next fall, while he will work as Teaching Assistant teaching basic Spanish language.

Emily Flores
Emily plans to hopefully enroll in the Chicago Police Academy next spring. She wants to be a police officer in the City of Chicago, because she would like to work in her district and build a better relationship in the community.

Maddie Fry
Maddie has been accepted as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Costa Rica. She is unsure when she will be able to go but it is an opportunity she have been dreaming about for years and she cannot be more ecstatic.

Katherine Germann
Katherine is going to register at The Ohio State University School of Medicine. She is super excited about next year.
Jesse Hershberger
Jesse’s plans for after graduation are not finalized yet, but she is interviewing in the Office of Admissions here at Valpo.
Natelle Kezy
Next year, if schools are not online, Natalle will be going to law school. She is not yet sure which school, but she will be choosing soon. If school is online, she will be working at a law firm trying to get job experience and resuming her education in fall of 2021.

Shannon Lahey
In June, Shannon will work in Chicago as International Consultant of Sales. She will live in Naperville with her boyfriend and their dog.

Rachel MacDonough
Next year Rachel will be at Valpo again for graduate school in the School Psychology program. She has already talked with her program advisor about how to use her Spanish in her future career in schools, so she is very excited about that!
