About Our Finance Degree

Valpo’s bachelor of science in business administration (BSBA) in finance blends a strong foundation in business with in-depth knowledge of finance. You’ll sharpen your critical thinking and communication skills through general education courses, gain hands-on experience through career readiness classes and an internship course, and build deep expertise in finance-specific coursework — preparing you for long-term success in a variety of professional settings.


Finance Major

All College of Business students pursuing a bachelor of science in business administration (BSBA) begin with two core groups of courses:

  • Business Core
  • General Education Core

The finance major requirements ensure students have a solid understanding of the issues and methods related to managing money.

Finance, BSBA

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Degree Requirements: 124 Cr.

Major Requirements

Minimum 18 Cr.

  • BAN 340 – Statistics for Decision Making – 3 Cr.
  • FIN 330 – Financial Markets & Institutions – 3 Cr.
  • FIN 410 – Theory of Corporate Finance – 3 Cr.
  • FIN 420 – Investment Management – 3 Cr.
  • FIN 430 – International Finance – 3 Cr.
  • FIN 470 – Financial Strategy and Policy – 3 Cr.
  • Free Electives (Note 1): The credit count for free electives varies based on 3 or 4 credit classes chosen in General Education requirements. Students must reach 124 Cr. to graduate. 

Major Field Requirement

  • Two non-core business courses numbered above 300

In addition to the required courses, each student in the program completes either:

  • An internship, or
  • A cooperative education experience combining full-time professional, paid work experience with academic coursework.

Finance Minor

The finance minor provides students with a foundational understanding of financial principles, markets, and decision-making tools essential for personal and professional success. The minor complements a wide range of majors and prepares students for careers or graduate study in corporate finance, banking, financial planning, and investment management.
