About

Abbey Houx ’11 Bodine ’17 M.S. graduated from Valparaiso University in 2011 with a bachelor of science in fine arts, concentrating in graphic design. She joined the marketing team in 2012. Abbey also served as an adjunct instructor of art, occasionally leading Graphic Design I, Graphic Design II, and graduate-level graphic design courses from 2016–2019. She earned her master of science in digital media from Valpo in 2017.

Over the course of her tenure at Valpo, Abbey has earned and contributed to numerous awards, most recently a Brandie and a Marcom Platinum Award for the implementation of Valpo’s brand refresh, rolled out in 2024. She was also the recipient of three Hermes Creative Awards, a Gold Communicator Award, two CASE V Awards, a NACMA Best of Bronze Award, and an additional Platinum Marcom Award.

If you’ve spent any time on campus, you’ve seen Abbey’s work. Her portfolio of expertise includes visual identities, branding, advertising, signage, social media and other digital graphics, motion graphics, and all manner of print materials – from brochures and postcards to vehicle wraps, to a 214-page book. She also develops branded templates with the target audience in mind, providing user-friendly solutions to empower campus partners to promote their departments and events while aligning with Valpo’s brand and visual identity.

Her office is located in the Harre Union Lower Level, where she conducts brand training office hours on the first and third Tuesday of the month. She welcomes opportunities to collaborate on creative endeavors, and strives to help campus partners communicate clearly and effectively through visual design. And of course, she will make them look good – always!
