The Valparaiso Experience in Research by Undergraduate Mathematicians (VERUM) provides an opportunity for rising sophomore and junior students to engage in a first research experience in mathematics. The VERUM program is looking for exceptional students who are looking for a research experience that will help them to decide if graduate studies in the mathematical sciences should be part of their future plans. Being committed to graduate study is not a prerequisite for this program, but rather a desired outcome. First generation college students, minority students, and women are particularly encouraged to apply.
Each participant will be provided with residence hall accomodations on campus, a $4,500 stipend, and partial travel reimbursement to Valparaiso University for the summer and to the Joint Mathematics Meetings in January, 2015.
Valparaiso University is located 20 minutes south of Indiana Dunes National Park, which rests on the edge of Lake Michigan. Chicago's Randolph Street Station, (right next to Millinium Park) located in the loop, is only a
1 1/2 hour train ride.
