IT looks for enthusiastic and customer-focused students who have some interest in working with technology. IT positions are great on-campus jobs for students of all majors and varied technical skill capabilities. We regularly have openings for student positions in a variety of areas. New student employees are provided with training on various university systems, ticket processing, customer service methodologies, and troubleshooting processes in preparation for their first shifts.

How To Apply

We no longer use the Career Center’s Handshake system to post open positions and job descriptions. To make it easier to secure a position in the IT staff on campus, we have changed the job application process. In the Valparaiso University IT department there are multiple different positions available for you to find your absolute best fit. Here is some information about some of the different positions available and a summary of the job description.

About the Position

Help Desk Consultants are the first level of support for any information technology-related requests and issues that our campus community may face. This means that when students, faculty, and/or staff have a problem with or question related to an IT service, they will reach out to the Help Desk for assistance. The Help Desk Consultant is responsible for providing a positive customer service experience and first-level technical support to campus community members over the phone, in person and through an online ticketing system.

About the Position

Technical Support Consultants are the second level of support for any information technology-related requests and issues that our campus community may face. The Technical Support Consultants are responsible for providing a positive customer service experience and technical support to campus community members over the phone, in person and through an online ticketing system. In this role, students may be asked to provide installation and support services for campus computers, printers, scanners, mobile devices, audio-visual technology, network connections and software applications. Technology can be located in offices, classrooms, computer labs, residence hall rooms, and other locations throughout the University.

About the Position

The IT Projects Intern is responsible for the oversight of the summer projects for the Office of Information Technology for the duration of summer. This position will work closely with several members of the IT staff as well as other Valparaiso University staff to develop and create resources, videos and other materials.  They will be responsible for managing the completion of projects and communicating with important parties throughout the process.  Projects for 2022 will include but are not limited to: Focus presentations, StarFish projects, development of how-to videos and graphics for flyers and TV screens.

Currently working on various projects for FOCUS, summer camps and conferences, fall planning, and tech support. 

“Some of my responsibilities include helping present and create resources for IT orientation for new students, processing OneCards for freshmen and summer camps, and helping update campus information systems. I really enjoy being able to practice problem solving and apply these skills to help various people around campus. I also enjoy being able to help incoming students with their transition to Valpo and support them with important  information that will help them adjust. This internship has provided me a way to practice critical thinking, customer service, and teamwork which will be of great help to me in the future!”

Currently in the process of graduating PA school, but has worked in the IT department for 5 years running the 3 main social media accounts for the IT Department, helping to train new Help Desk employees, and addressing the many issues at the Desk (password resets, Office 365 issues, Wifi trouble, paper, toner, etc.).
