An effort is under way to renew and enhance the Chapel of the Resurrection, which for half a century has stood as a central symbol of Lutheran character and mission at Valparaiso University.
The Chapel of the Resurrection Fundraising Initiative: Our Future in Faith is an undertaking designed to prepare the chapel for dynamic ministry in the years ahead. According to President Mark A. Heckler, the Chapel of the Resurrection stands "as the centerpiece of campus and the heart of worship, service, leadership, and reconciliation for the campus community."
This Sunday, Dec. 15, join us for Sunday morning worship with Holy Communion at 10 a.m. in the main Chapel. Rev. John Nunes will preach and University Pastor Rev. James A. Wetzstein will preside.
Worship isn't just for Sundays! During the school year, the Chapel offers eleven different worship opportunities a week, including 20 minutes of daily Morning Prayer at its new time (10 a.m.), Monday through Friday, Candlelight and Celebrate services, and Gloria Christi Prayer, an evening opportunity to pray. Our annual Advent Christmas Vespers will be Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at 7 and 10 p.m. This year's theme is "A Visit/Una Visita," and will feature the art of John August Swanson and a newly composed choral work, "Home," by acclaimed composer Libby Larsen. This evening of scriptural readings and special music will feature the Chapel of the Resurrection String Quartet, the Kantorei Choir, and the Handbell Choir of the Chapel of the Resurrection.
