Transition To Teaching Program
Valparaiso University’s Transition to Teaching (T2T) students have access to three scholarships — including a state grant providing up to $10,000 — to help make your new path into education a manageable investment in your future.
Scholarships for Transition to Teaching Students
Designed for career changers who hold a bachelor’s degree in a non-education field, Valparaiso University’s T2T certificate program prepares you to bring your expertise into K-12 classrooms. To help make the journey possible, students may be eligible for three scholarship options, including a state grant of up to $10,000 that can be combined with other awards to further offset tuition costs.
The Big Shoulders Fund (BSF) Scholarship supports teacher development and recruitment within the Diocese of Gary. This scholarship program was established in June 2025, with the expansion of the Chicago-based organization into Northwest Indiana. Two scholarship options are available — the BSF Scholarship and the Valpo-BSF Scholarship — each covering one-third of tuition.
2025-2026
- BSF Scholarship: $245/credit
- Valpo-BSF Scholarship: $245/credit
- Student pays: $244/credit + fees
2026-2027
- BSF Scholarship: $255/credit
- Valpo-BSF Scholarship: $254/credit
- Student pays: $254/credit + fees

The Indiana Commission for Higher Education (ICHE) Transition to Teaching Scholarship is a state grant providing up to $10,000 to cover remaining program tuition costs — even after other scholarships have been applied. This makes it a valuable complement to the Valparaiso University Transition to Teaching Scholarship or the Big Shoulders Fund Scholarship.
Visit the ICHE Transition to Teaching Scholarship page to learn more and review the eligibility requirements and application steps to get started. The scholarship application is available through ScholarTrack, Indiana’s portal for state financial aid.

Estimate Your Cost
The Net Price Calculator helps prospective undergraduate first-time freshmen and their families estimate the cost of attending Valparaiso University after grants and scholarships. Based on recent student award data, it provides an estimate of financial aid and remaining costs to help families plan ahead.
These estimates are not guarantees of aid, and students must still complete all admissions and financial aid requirements by the appropriate deadlines. Families with unusual financial circumstances are encouraged to contact the Office of Financial Aid for assistance.
