CAMPUS HERO BANNER

Student Media Organizations

Gaining skills and making connections through a student media organization will help you become a more well-rounded individual who’s ready to take on their future career!

The CVA department enjoys a close working relationship with five award-winning student media organizations on campus, which provide students concrete ways to expand and apply their skill sets — including paid opportunities. Students involved in the media organizations expand their portfolios and professional networks, build lasting friendships, and have fun!

WVUR-FM, The Source 95, is Valparaiso University’s professional radio station. Students can develop their own radio shows, broadcast Valparaiso University sports, DJ, and more. WVUR looks for staff who can contribute creative ideas and keep radio relevant on Valpo’s diverse campus. Opportunities are open to students of all majors who learn as they participate.

The VUTV teleproduction studio operates like a professional television station, including opportunities for cameramen, station managers, and news anchors and other reporters. Students from any discipline and every class can become involved. Every TV on campus can access this student-run station on cable channel 15.

The Torch weekly student newspaper covers events on and off campus. The publication offers paid writing, editing, and photography and editing opportunities for students as well as editorial staff positions for experienced participants interested in a leadership role.

The Beacon, Valpo’s annual yearbook, offers paid writing, photography, and design opportunities. The organization maintains an Instagram page for more information and can also be reached at beacon@valpo.edu.

The Lighter, connected to the English department, is a student magazine for literature and art that captures the most beautiful, lyrical, and imaginative works that Valparaiso University students have to offer. The Lighter is released twice a year, once each semester, and students must submit their work for review by a selection committee. The Lighter is one of the best ways for students from all departments to come together and create a piece of their own Valpo experience.
