Action Item 4.3

campus diversity

Transparent communication of all diversity related demographical data and information

Potential employees, students, and families have a right to know transparently the type of campus they may be joining so they can then make reasonable and educated decisions about their short- and long-term professional development, education, and emotional and physical wellbeing. Demographical diversity information and data for our campus should be easily accessible to those who are interested in working at and/or attending Valpo.

Updates

Faculty and Staff– In Fall 2022, DEI and OMP departments worked with other faculty members to create a database containing the contact information of faculty and staff of color. The use of this database is now a best practice in these offices.

Alumni– In Spring 2022, another database for Advancement and Alumni offices that provide Alumni’s ethnicity, low- income, and first-generation status. The database comprises Alumni from 2007 to 2021, before that time first-generation status was not available in enrollment records. The hope is to target alumni in activities and fundraising projects supporting current marginalized students.

Current students– In Fall 2021, Institutional Research started collaborating with the DEI and OMP offices every semester with a database for all underrepresented students, as well as one for low-income first-generation students. The use of this database is now a best practice in these offices.
