Student Employment

The Harre Union has student employees on the following teams: event services, event management assistants, welcome desk attendants, mail services desk attendants, and The Bell and Beacon attendants. You must have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA to be eligible for these positions.

Job Descriptions

Position can be applied to after one semester of service in the Harre Union.

  • Open and close the building
  • Lead of a team of students while on shift
  • Handle safety concerns, emergency situations, and conflict scenarios
  • Manage all reservations throughout the day
  • Sets up and tears down tables, chairs, stage pieces for major events
  • Does rounds of the building for safety purposes
  • Works with Building Manager on set-ups and tear downs

  • Create reservations using EMS
    Maintain and update the display case posters
    Distribute fliers and manage the bulletin boards within the Union
    Take phone calls and handle walk-in questions
  • Responsible for check-out and return of games and equipment
  • Cleans the space as needed
  • Develops tournaments and events for students to attend
  • Answer phone calls and questions for guests
  • Give general directions and information about the university
  • Sell tickets for events around campus
  • Work with computers, projectors, and other technology
  • Prepare microphones and audio equipment for events and music concerts
  • Set up live streams for remote / hybrid events
  • Learn how to effectively troubleshoot technology
  • Responsible for emailing students, staff and faculty with mailroom updates
  • Distributes packages and mail to students, staff, and faculty

Camps and Conference Undergraduate Student Assistants (CAs) will provide overall support for all facets of the Summer Camps and Conferences Program at Valparaiso University. Conference staff members are responsible for servicing the needs of conference groups and their participants housed in the residence halls. This includes administrative, clerical and physical operations necessary to provide housing and support services to conference participants, and involvement in all phases of the conference program, including pre-conference preparation and post-conference follow-up.
