This course is a primer to not only graphic design but prepares students to consider the formal aspects of art-making in both a 2D and 3D context. Conventional methods and materials along with an introduction to several computer programs such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Carrara Studio which is used to create virtual 3D models.
Students will learn the basics to typography through a variety of challenging problems. Students are introduced to several different programs and will gain a basic knowledge of Adobe's Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop as well as Eovia's Carrara 3D Studio. Students who wish to concentrate in graphic design will find this course invaluable towards pursuing a career in design. Required for major.
The focus of this course features study in the areas of corporate identity and an introduction to publication design. Students will examine the needs faced by corporations and institutions looking to create and manage brand image. Publication design in the form of magazines and other materials is also explored.
This course challenges students to solve the most advanced design problems. In addition senior members of the course will devote a portion of the semester to prepare exit portfolios and other materials related to job searches. Students will find a variety of problems to solve which includes advertising, publication and package related problems.
