Break & Extended Housing

The residence halls close for Thanksgiving, Winter Break and Spring Break. Break housing is available in select residence halls during these times.

BREAK HOUSING QUALIFICATIONS
Limited Break Housing is available for the following reasons:

  • International Students
  • VU athletes in mid-season with practice and/or games over break
  • Students whose home is 500 or more miles from Valparaiso, Indiana
  • Students participating in a credit-bearing activity such as student teaching, internship, or co-op

Students ARE NOT automatically eligible for break housing if they hold an on or off-campus job that is not directly associated with a credit-bearing academic program.

If you do not meet any of the above criteria for Break Housing, you may submit a request based on an “Other” type of reason. PLEASE NOTE that if you are approved for Break Housing for non-University related reason(s), you will be charged a $25 per night fee for utilizing University Break Housing.

HOW TO APPLY FOR BREAK HOUSING
Break Housing applications are available on your Housing Self-Service. To access your Housing Self-Service page, log onto DataVU then select Housing Self-Service. Once on your Housing Self-Service page, select the Applications tab and then select the appropriate break housing application.

DON’T LIVE IN A BREAK BUILDING?
If you are not a current resident of a break building you are required to obtain permission from a resident of a break building to occupy his/her room during the vacation period. YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO USE THEIR KEY. You will not be given a key to their room by Residential Life.

Residential Life has limited spaces available to host students who do not reside in break buildings or cannot find a host. Students applying for break housing after the application deadline will not be guaranteed housing in a space provided by Residential Life.
