Spring Break Housing

The residence halls close for Spring Break on SATURDAY, MARCH 2, 2024 at 12 pm and will reopen after Spring Break on SUNDAY, MARCH 17, 2024 at 12 pm. Break housing students will transition to their academic year assignments on SUNDAY, MARCH 17, 2024 by 5 pm.

Limited Break Housing is available for the following reasons:

  • International Students
  • VU athletes in mid-season with practice and/or games over break
  • Students whose home is 500 or more miles from Valparaiso, Indiana
  • Students participating in a credit-bearing activity such as student teaching, internship, or co-op
  • Students participating in a VU sponsored service trip

Students ARE NOT automatically eligible for break housing if they hold an on or off-campus job that is not directly associated with a credit-bearing academic program.

During the break period, university dining will not be open. Students are responsible for their own food during the break period.

If you do not meet any of the above criteria for Break Housing, you may submit a request based on an “Other” type of reason. PLEASE NOTE that if you are approved for Break Housing for non-University related reason(s), you will be charged a $25 per night fee for utilizing University Break Housing.

Break Housing applications are available on your Housing Self-Service. To access your Housing Self-Service page log onto DataVU then select “Housing Self-Service.” Once on your Housing Self-Service page, select the “Applications” tab and then select the “Spring Break Housing Application.”

If you are not a current resident of the break housing building you are required to obtain permission from a resident of the break housing building to occupy their room during the vacation period. YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO USE THEIR KEY. You will not be given a key to their room by Residential Life.

Residential Life has limited spaces available in break halls to host students who do not reside in break buildings or cannot find a host. Students applying for break housing after 5 pm on Monday, February 19 will not be guaranteed housing in a space provided by Residential Life.

The Office of Residential Life must receive applications for Spring Break housing by 5 pm on MONDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2024. Additionally, students who do not properly sign up for break housing by the posted deadlines and need accommodations may also have to pay a late application fee ($50) to receive permission to reside on campus during the break period.

If your plans change, including the dates you need break housing, or if you need to cancel your request, please contact our office at or 219.464.5413.

You will be notified via your Valpo email on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, of the status of your break housing request.
