Ms. Gifford joined !he College of Nursing and Health Professions staff in March 2014 and is an academic advisor for students in the BSN program. She holds a master’s degree in English and a bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature with teaching and research interests in first-year English composition, multimodal composition, the theories and rhetoric of gender and sexuality, and academic advising, She has taught first-year English composition at Purdue Northwest and has also been a certified substitute teacher. She has presented a research paper at the Popular Culture and American Culture Association National Conference, has published an article in Pastels: A Journal of Creative Communication, and has written a blog for NACADA. Her awards include first place in The Stark-Tinkham Writing Awards Graduate Critical Essay in 2009 and 2010 and the Laura McMullen Cross Scholarship from Wichita State University. Ms. Gifford is a member of NACADA, Valparaiso University’s Council of Academic Advisors, and the Presidential Commission for an Inclusive Valparaiso Community (CIVC).
